Since 1994 the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery has been presenting artworks created by students from Tasmanian schools and colleges, who are submitting folios of work for the Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE).

Each year, artworks for the exhibition are chosen by selectors from the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery who travel around the State viewing each school’s end-of-year display. From the top strand of portfolios they choose works that, in their opinion, are of a high standard and are exciting, interesting, funny or ‘out there’ enough to contribute to a really interesting exhibition.

ArtRage 2009 includes 72 students’ work from 20 schools. From the 10 southern schools there are works by 37 students. From four schools in the north-west of Tasmania, there are 15 students represented; and in northern Tasmania 21 students have been selected from six schools.

Many of the students who have been ArtRaged over the past fourteen years have gone on to extend their participation in the arts at a professional level and it is likely that all will continue to participate in the arts as part of an active and informed audience.

ArtRage is an initiative of the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery that receives enormous co-operation from students and teachers. An important factor in the success of this exhibition is the support and commitment from the Burnie Regional Gallery and the Tasmanian School of Art, Centre for the Arts, in Hobart. This ensures that ArtRage is accessible to an enthusiastic audience statewide.

The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery is committed to touring ArtRage to all regions of the State.
